SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECIES

Written By: Alberta Totz, JD, LPC

According to some estimates, as many as 80 percent of our thoughts each day are negative. In  order to “bury dead yesterdays”, you have to change your inner critic and tune out the negative  self-talk. How???

You have to rehearse a different story. Henry Ford was right: “Whether you believe you can do a  thing or not, you are right.” For better or for worse, the stories we tell ourselves become self fulfilling prophecies.

Some of the most successful people in the world have had to overcome the biggest giants.  Some would argue that they achieved success in spite of those odds, but I would argue the  opposite. I think they achieved success because of them. They had to overcome adversity by  cultivating compensatory skills. They had to work harder to develop because of their obstacles.  However, that work ethic, grit and determination is what catapulted them to success. We don’t  get to choose how our story starts, but the ending is up to you.
