A Little Bit About Allie…
Where Did You Grow Up?
I am a Houston native! I spent some time in Austin, Texas at the end of high school and my entire undergraduate experience at Texas State University.
What Do You Love To Do?
My hobbies include yoga, working out, traveling anywhere with a beach and a good piña colada, reading memoirs and self-help books, watching documentaries, and photography.
What Are You Studying?
I am currently finishing my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Houston Christian University, formerly known as Houston Baptist University. I have also received special training in limbic revision and inner child exploration from the Gestalt Institute and Relationship Center of New Orleans.
What Population Do You Love To Work With?
I love to work with young adults who may be struggling with anxiety, codependency issues, low self-esteem, and depression.
What Led You To Become A Therapist?
I've had an inclination towards studying human behavior for as long as I can remember. In high school, I was a quiet observer who was too shy and anxious to join any clubs. I loved reading about Freud and Piaget. Studying Psychology in my undergraduate program seemed like a no-brainer to me, but what ultimately led me to become a psychotherapist was my own healing journey.
Becoming aware of the ways I was self-sabotaging my relationships, my opportunities, and contributing to my own unhappiness was the first step to becoming empowered to make necessary changes, while learning to be kind to myself along the way. That was no easy feat. Learning ways to silence my inner critic and embrace the messiness of life inspired me to help others do the same. My current long-term goals are to understand more about the brain-body connection.
