Meet Alberta Totz, JD, LPC-Associate

Where Did You Grow Up?

I am a Houston native!

What Do You Love To Do?

I love to be with my family and friends. In my free time I love to exercise, travel and cook.

What Led You To Become A Therapist?

From a young age, I was fascinated by human nature. I connect to others best by learning and listening to their stories, which has always inspired me to help them confront and overcome their challenges.

In my lifetime, psychology has helped me see more of myself and others, giving me the courage to understand who I am and how I embrace my life experiences as a tool to help others.

Can You Tell Us About Your Education And Early Career?

Before pursuing my passion for psychology, I started my career as a lawyer. I left the practice of law because I always felt called to work with people on a more personal level. However, my legal practice left me with more than just a practical skillset. The process of navigating challenges and changes in my careers has given insights as to what it takes to recognize and follow one’s purpose in life.

Can You Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Psychoanalytic Training?
I pursued psychoanalytic training as a didactic student at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston.  This four year program allowed me to broaden my knowledge as I learned from esteemed practitioners in the field.  I was inspired to pursue this degree after having the privilege of working personally with two psychoanalysts.

I feel honored to have studied under Dr. Felicia Powell Williams, a psychoanalyst and President of the Board of Directors at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies. I am currently under the supervision of Dr. Felicia Williams-Powell.

What Population Do You Love To Work With?
I love working with children, their parents, couples, and adults who are looking to explore what might be holding them back from living the life they desire.

I am also particularly interested in working with clients who are looking for a mind-body approach to healing. I understand that mental health extends beyond just what might be going on in our mind.

Can You Tell Us About Your Work At The Journey School?

In addition to seeing clients at Well Mind Body, I also work as a school counselor at The Journey School.

The Journey School is a unique place that serves students who experience social and emotional delays or identify as twice-exceptional. Many Journey students have been diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, or a learning disability. In my role as Counselor, I work closely with children and their families to support them with their social and emotional needs. Part of my role also includes making sure each child is appropriately supported in the classroom setting.

Alberta is available to see clients in person and virtually Monday - Friday. She specializes in children, teens, adults and couples. If you would like to book a session with Alberta, please click the link below.
