Self Care Tips for Kids Mental Health

Life can get busy which can lead to dysfunctional and dysregulated nervous systems. Supporting children’s mental health through self-care is crucial for kids overall well-being. Here are a few tips that can be mindfully added to any routine.

Establish a Routine

Regular bedtimes and mealtimes can help create a sense of security and stability.

Model Self Compassion + Positive Self Talk

Self Compassion and positive affirmations help kids develop a positive self-esteem and self-image by teaching them affirmations like, “I am strong,” or “I can handle tough situations.”

Encourage Open Communication

Create a safe space and validating environment for children to talk about their feelings without judgement.

Physical Activity

Regular exercise helps reduce stress and boost mood.

Creative Outlets

Encourage open-ended creative outlets such as drawing, painting, writing, or other creative activities to help kids express themselves and manage emotions.

Mindfulness and Breathing Exercises

Practice deep breathing or guided meditation to help kids relax and focus.

Mindful Nutrition

Provide a healthy, balanced diet to support physical and mental health. Avoid excessive sugar and processed foods.

Adequate Sleep

Sleep is essential for mood regulation and cognitive functioning.

Limit Screen Time

Set boundaries for online time to reduce exposure to stress-inducing content.

Playtime and Relaxation

Ensure kids have plenty of time for unstructured play.

Here at Well Mind Body we understand how life can get busy and self care can be put on the back burner. We know how hard it can be to infuse self care throughout the day. We hope these tips make it a little bit easier for you!
