Growing Compassion: Community Art Project

“Growing Compassion”

Growing Compassion is a community art project inspired by Houston’s movement for compassion. Compassionate messages and art were collected at booths during two events in 2017: Compassion Fest on April 22nd and the NAMI Walk on May 6th.

We used 100% recycled, 30% post-consumer waste business card-sized paper and a branch found in friend’s backyard.

On one side participants were encouraged to write a compassionate message. Those needing a prompt are asked, “What is your deepest wish for yourself and the community?” On the other side participants were asked to paint or draw. Those needing a prompt are asked, “What is the color of compassion?”

The messages were collected and tied to a decorated branch to symbolize the city of Houston growing kindness for itself and others.

Part art installation and part reservoir of compassionate wishes, Growing Compassion seeks to engage people of all ages and all backgrounds by inspiring and offering compassion. The hope for this project is that it will continue to cultivate a positive and enjoyable state of the human experience.

Growing Compassion is currently located in the waiting room of Center For Creative Resources. Our hope is that Growing Compassion will move to other therapy office's in the Houston area to help spread the message of compassion.
